It seems clear there is an issue with the bike here. OP states that the vibration has gotten worse than when the bike was younger. Pic of the bolt certainly seems suspicious - there's something there that shouldn't normally be on the threads. At the same time, the bolt threads appear perfect, so not sure what that might be.

But I question how much of the failure to communicate is the OPs fault. When you start off with that attitude that the dealership is a "stealer" you aren't likely to be calm, rational, and objective. More likely you walked in with a chip on your shoulder and now, no matter what they do or say, you won't be receptive. Of course we have no way of knowing what other, prior negative experiences with this particular dealership you may have had.

As others have said, seek out a dealership you can have confidence in. In my experience, three of the four dealerships I've dealt with over the years have been stand up folks. The fourth I've never had service at but didn't care for their "sales tactics" and the markups they add to the price of bikes. No biggie - I just choose not to give them my business.

I realize it's 'cool' to call dealerships stealers online - see it all over the net. Don't see any value in it and wonder what we'd feel if we found they all referred to us as 'suckers' on their forums?

Excellent points. The object here is getting the problem solved. Different approach with the same dealer might prove beneficial. Also think a second opinion is in order here for the OP's confidence.

Default update

I talked, unofficially, with one of the mechanics and he tells me they have had some issues with motor mounts. So I did the alignment in the manual and shimmed the front mount using longer bolts, although I'm still concerned about the stripped shavings on the stock bolt. Reduced vibes about 75% which is a significant amount compared to what it was. I did call the dealer manager and express my concern about the service department non action on my service issues (I explained the issue on the phone when I made the service appt., to the service tech when i dropped the bike off, on the phone to the service manager while they were working on it. They never checked the front mount only wrote up that the tire pressure was low and vibration was normal. My question to the manager was if the vibration was "normal" why was I able to reduce it significantly? He offered to personally over see the service if i brought it back in. I told him I'm gonna ride it for a while but appreciate the offer. we'll see what the next few hundred miles bring.

I would suggest that you show the service manager the picture of the bolt that you posted on here, It is obvious that the mount is stripped.

I've concluded it's pretty lame that H-D isn't installing the "b" motor in all of its Big Twins. Rubber mount is suboptimal (as this thread graphically demonstrates), and they're already making the engines. Dual front brakes are my other pet peeve.

My '09 Ultra started a vibration about 6 months ago. Very slight at first, then increased in strength, it now vibrates all the time in the 1800 to 2000 rpm range. I have had it to two dealers, three times and all I get is that the tech says it is okay. There was almost no vibration when the bike was newer and now approaching 10,000 miles it is getting worse. I bought and had an indy install new motor mounts since I have had that problem on a previous Ultra, it felt the same. That turned out not to be the problem, so money down the drain there. I am going back to the dealer where I purchased the bike and try one more time before I run it up the ladder at MOCO. The next step after that is go to the Honda store and get Wing I guess. The dealer has really dropped the ball on this one.

that muck on the bolt is that metal shave, or Loctite.

check the torque on the exhaust studs to the cylinder heads! ask me how I know. Vibration has to start somewhere. Motor mount may just be the result.

What IS the torque spec for the exhaust stud nuts??? I'm having my mounts looked at Wed. by the dealer. It's still under warranty. I told my indy about the numbing vibration in the pegs and he suggested they also pull the rear mount which causes a kind of squishy *** end side to side slide at high speeds. When he described it, it is exactly what I've been experiencing for almost a year now. I'll report back on how I make out. TK
