Hey guys, finally sold my sporty two weekends ago, and this past weekend I found an 07 SB that is my new baby. I am fairly knowledgeable on the dyna models, as I used to work on the assembly line at the Kansas City Factory, but I still have a few questions.
First of all, I want to put on a 21" front wheel, so what do I need to know about them? What size bearings do I need? Can I just use a factory wheel from a softail or a Wideglide?
Next, it must have forward controls, when I pull off the primary, I thinki I remember that the clutch and chain and everything have to come off, is that a real big pain?
Use your stock hub and spokes and buy a Jireh cycles 21x2.25 rim and lace it your self. I'll get pics up in a sec, but here's a thread for you. SHould cost you around $50 for the rim and then purchase tire and mount.
There are two versions of the forward control relocation as far as I can tell. I used the Harley product which you do have to remove the clutch and drive chain, remove the old shift rod and plug the hole where it comes through the primary cover. It really wasnt that bad, took about 4 hours sitting in my driveway. There is another kit where you just tie the old shift rod in place and leave it there, I think there might be a cap you place over the old shift stub. Guess its a personal preference and how deep you want to get into it.

Not hard to do but get a service manual so you have the tightening procedure for the primary cover so you don't warp it. Just take your time and label everything so you don't get anything mixed up. I photo everything with a digital camera when I am in "new uncharted territory" so I can look back and see how it was put together if necessary.
You don't have to pull the primary at all to install forward controls. The Kuryakyn forwards kit is designed to not do that and comes with a cover for the shifter spline and a locking clip for the mid-shifter link to locate and lock it down behind the primary. Some have found ways to do the same thing with the HD forwards kit. It looks fine and gives the option for you or the next owner to go back to mids easier and quicker if you want.
Most people use kits where there's no reason to take apart the primary. Simply abandon the old shift lever in the primary (remove the outer cover and cut it if you wish) and install the forward lever with the rest of the kit.
