Default Horn relocation

Anybody relocated the horn and to where? I was thinking of moving it to just below the steering stem and wondered if anyone else has done it.

Yes, I've done that. I didn't like the horn where it was over the engine either. It doesn't make sense to be on one side when it makes more sense to be in the front... but I digress...

I tried putting the stock horn where the engine guard bolts up to the frame (probably where you considered mounting the horn right under the forks but on the frame). It looks good, but when I went over speed bumps or anything that pushed the forks, it would hit the front fender, which eventually damages the paint, but not the fender shape itself.

I bought one of the sportster horns, I think it was $18 (without the fancy chrome cover- I'm budget when it comes to asthetics). I used the hardware of the original horn to mount the horn. I then needed to extend the wires to the horn, so you'll need to do some minor wire work. It looks good because it's virtually flush with the frame; can't really see it.

You'll need vice grips to remove the mount from the original location- it's on real tight. You'll also need to get some washers and nut that fit the mounting hardware because the hole is bigger. I just took the piece to home depot and spent a whole 35 cents. Use some blue lock tight too.

Mine's in front of the rear wheel, mounted by using the rear engine mount bolt. There's several other idea's in here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/2835532-post561.html

Yep. Tucked mine behind the fairing. I just had to extend the wires.

FDXRaw,
Do you have any pictures of where you mounted it? I like the idea of trying to fit it up underneath the fork stem rather than in front of the rear wheel and I don't have a fairing. Pics would be great.

Hide it under the seat...Bolt a small L bracket to the battery box or some similar place, pull the wire back, and out of sight out of mind. I picked up an el-cheapo chrome horn, you can see it right in front of the battery box.

I relocated mine to a box in the garage. Maybe it's just me, but I've never been able to find the horn button fast enough in the situations where it's needed. I've usually gotten off several "F-YOU's" and a few "WATCH THE F OUT's" before I'm able to find the button for the horn.

I left the cowbell in place and used automotive trim tape to mount my garage door opener inside it.

I think this is what your looking for. I relocated the horn to the front.

Ah yes, the dreaded vehicle inspection...I haven't had to deal with one of those since I moved from PA. Out here in the wild west they figure if you're able to get it onto the interstate it must be okay. They're more worried about emissions than a properly functioning braking mechanism...go figure.

Next time they ask you to test the horn yell "HONK" really loud and tell them it's "custom".

Sorry to hijack your thread pcbunn. If I had to have a functioning horn I'd probably go with 8541hog's idea. I don't think a horn looks particularly good anywhere so hide it if you can.
