I put the HD chrome band over mine because much like a fish I am attracted to shiny metallic objects........

I just took the phlimsy plastic thing off, painted it rattle can wrinkly black, and put it back on.

Texture black spray paint...

It has four attachments going into the box. Undo them from the back of the box and it comes right off. Then put whatever you want to fill the holes

I removed the ugly plastic-look cover, simply pulling it of. For now I left the black plastic strip where the cover was glued on.

Thanks for the ideas gentlemen. I like the look of the black bolts for sure, and I found this 1966-71 FL's, XL's model tank badge that I think will look real nice. Sold in pairs for $30, so I'll put the second one on the coil cover.
