my brakes sucked *** at first too. the only thing i hate is the rear brakes will lock up easily. i'm glad i grew up riding dirt bikes and its been beneficial in riding my dyna. using both brakes, downshifting and the compression of the engine to slow the bike really helps. dual discs would be nice but it could be dangerous too, in certain situations for inexperienced riders. the weight of a sporty and dyna is different so is braking.

Although the Ultra LOOKS like a big heavy garbage truck, it really does handle well and is the most comfortable ride I have ever had.
+1. Most here don't want to believe it but my Electra Glide Classic is a far better slow-speed handling bike then my Street Bob. With the ABS it brakes better too! Much more comfortable and less tiring means I grab the Classic keys every time we head out for a road trip - UNLESS we're headed to the twisties up in the mountains.

Around town and day trips (150 - 300 mile r/t), I always take the Dyna although I really wish I'd hear back from Chuck at C&C cause I gotta get a better seat on it!

Believe it or not brakes should be seated in before they work best. Whenever you buy a new vehicle or put new brake pads in you should avoid hard braking for several stops. Since the bike only had 1 mile on it when you tested it the brakes weren't working at their best. My new 2009 FXDC felt like the pads had oil on them for a while and I felt just like you about the effectiveness of Harley brakes but now the bike stops just fine.

I haven't had any problems with my brakes. Perhaps, the pad break in is a problem. I went from a BMW R1100RT to the FXD. I was wondeirng if they would be a problem, but they aren't.

I know I'm not riding a sport bike though and know I don't have ABS brakes like the BMW did, so I'd never hammer the front brake.

The worst braking bike I've ridden on the street was probably a Kawasaki KLR 650. Now those were some bad brakes!

A couple of guys have brought up the superior low speed handling of an Ultra...That is because they and all Touring models have a reversed triple tree...the steering neck is in front of the forks...They have no "flop" at walking speeds.

Also, I recently test drove a 2010 RG Custom and I thought it felt like a 3/4 ton pick-up. I would disagree with your comment about "any" touring model, riding better than a Super Glide.

I own an 08 FLSTC and drive over 75 mph plus on a regular basis. Smooth as silk. What's your point?
