After 3 months of down time, waiting on parts, saving money and waiting on the dealer, the bike is running again, 103 kit with 255 cams, (had to rebuild due to crank twisting).
Harley assisted in paying for the repairs not so sure, I think I could have fixed it cheeper
than they did even with them apying 1,500 of the bill.
I have a few concers, and before I talk to the dealer I want some opinons first
1: The bike pings under mild to hard throtle, think this might be spark knock, it never did this before
2: Vibration under mild to hard throtle. The mirrors shake and it feels like a you running vibrating sander on the foot peg and grips 3 times worse than before. It is very smooth at cruise speeds and idle.
3 Very bad decel pop and even when just letting the throtle off to switch gears
and it sorta hiccups when slowing down then getting back into the throttle
the dealer installed the sert and installed a map that they said matched my config
but want 400 more to do a tune on it. A tune is about a month or so out of the budget.
Thoughts and Suggestions wellcome
All your issues are tune related. I would be so frickin POd about them wanting to charge me $400.00 for a tune that I would scream! They rebuilt your motor due to a failure, under warranty and they don't want to tune it for you? I would tell them to eat **** and die.Go get an indy to tune it. It'll be a better job anyway.
You don't mention how many miles you have on the 103". Did they install a "break in" map? Some builders will put in a basic map to get the bike running good enough to help with breaking the motor in. After you put on a certain amount of miles (usually 500 or so) they should go back and do a final tune.

It has about 300 miles on it since the rebuild now so i am still taking it easy on the bike. i have not jumped into it yet to see what it will do, but it has so much vibration now that i am cocerned. should the larger bore make it vibrate more than stock.?
I know it's a little farther of a drive but I'm going to Hemrick Performance in NC for a tune. They charge $250 flat fee. It's a 2hr ride for me so from lexington I'd say minimum 3.5hr ride for you.
I would definitely say it's tune related. Can you ask if they have a different base map to use? The bike should be rideable for break-in and it sounds like it's not.
Unfortunately with the SERT you kinda have to get it tuned so the cost is necessary but I think you can find a better price than that, from a more qualified tuner.
I've heard Greenville HD has a good tech up there. Give'em a call. I don't remember the guys name. Supposedly he was trained by Doc who was posting in the tuning forum in the TTS thread.
i don't mind going for a ride to get it tuned, i just hope that it will get better than what it is now, i like the power but disapointed in the overall rideablity
well have put another 200 miles on the bike, vibration is still very bad, was watching the motor and it moves alot when you rev the engine front mount has alot of movement in it. how much is to much?
Have you checked to see if the front mount bolts are loose? Have you tried going through the vehicle alignment procedure outlined within your service manual, granted you own one and you should

If you had a way to self tune, you can get rid of the knock (detonation) by retarding spark a little at the point where it begins (going up from there) ... the decel popping should be a pretty easy fix with minor adjustment to the fuel map, too ....
That is BS--trying to hit you with a $400 charge just to get the thing to operate properly ...
Don't know if I'd necessarily agree the vibration is tune related, although it could be if it is running rougher than before ... if properly tuned it will run smoother and the vibes should attenuate .... But, it could be something else related to mounts or suspension ....
Chop...it could be tune related. Reason I believe so: last year when I got water into my pcIII. Aside from idling all over the map, it vibrated so much it was unbelievable.
So, the stock ecm was accepting crazy values (if any) from the pcIII on crack. lol
Was there a contract for what they would cover under warranty? Was a tune included? Did you sign it?
