i wouldn't advise riding your bike if its over full. Also Id run a motor up to full operating temp before changing fluids to ensure all the contaminated are suspended before draining. My owners manual and service manual both have good pictures of what plugs need to be removed during fluid changes. The service manual should be the first $$$$ people spend on their bike, especially when shop rates are so high

Well, maybe don't take the tools back (yet) but judging from the OP's other posts he really needs to get a service manual and read it.

Assuming you have removed the drain plug on the side of the sump? The oil filter will hold some oil ... albeit not the missing 1 1/2 quarts. As stated maybe bite the bullet and start afresh. Little tip especially with the tranny oil, if you are draining the oil on the side stand sit your bike upright to drain off the last remnants of old oil.

As was asked earlier, do you have an H-D factory service manual? If not, then you are just asking for trouble. The manual will take you through it step by step with pictures to show you the drain plugs.

+1 on the service manual or the very least a owners manual. This should be the first money spent for the bike if you are not familar with the model. Glad to hear it's been resolved.
