Default Oil Change question

Ok this may sound stupid , but I guess this is why HD Forums is here to answer the hard and obvious questions. I have never done my own engine , tranny, primary oil change yet and I am about to do my first now.I am at the 10000 mile service and decided its time to stop paying the dealerships all that hard earned money. In the 06 Touring Models Service manual on page 3-23 there is a picture of the Oil Pan. In the picture it shows the transmission oil drain plug and also the engine oil drain plug. They appear to be two plugs in the same cavity. Heres the dumb question!! Does the engine oil and the transmission oil actully share the the same pan. Or is there a small cavity for the transmission oil seperate from the engine oil in the same cavity. I'm wondering if when i drain and fill the engine oil, then go to the tranny oil will all the engine oil come back out after I just filled it .
The reason I am asking is simple , many bikes share the engine and transmission oils and doing my own oil change on my Harley has for some reason stress me out

Never see one that "shared" the oil, but O.K.

No,HD does not share the oil. Your trasns sits above the oil pan and is 100% seperate. Before you start, make sure you have new O -rings for the drain plugs. If you do not have them and dealer is closed, go to an auto shop.
Take it one step at a time, you will do fine.

Hey 06 Ultra, Go to this Website and order the DVDs. http://www.knowthyhog.com/ I really reccommend them for someone that is starting out doing their own wrenching. They are Model specific and well put together.

Get yourself some Loctite thread sealantalso. You will see that it is used on the drain plug bolts.Do not use teflon tape.

I've never used loctite on the drain plugs, I don't think that's a good idea. You might want to check again 1FLTRIFME

The sealant was on the plugs from the factory or the dealer(dealer did the 1K).
Why is it not a good idea?
BTW,I'm not reffering to red, blue or any Loctite that is for holding. It's the white stuff.

The white stuff is a thread sealer. I wouldn't use blue or red Loctite.

Although it is totally unnecessary, I see no reason why the Loctite thread sealant could not be used on the plugs(the white stuff)
