Default engine removal

bout to get a paint job,want to get the frame painted also just wondering on a 99 fxd can the engine -trans be removed from frame without removing jugs

it would be tight! i bet if you pulled the rockers it could! why paint the frame man? have it powder coated it will be a much stronger finish and look just as good if not better! you are goign to have to unblot the motor from the trans though to get it out

well ive got it worked out where a paint jobs not gonna cost me anything if it werent for that i would love to get it powdercoated. figgered as much as of the trans just didnt want to have to break the jugs loose prolly will get it p/c in a few years .thx for your help

On my 02 dwg, I had plenty of room to yank it out... heads and all. 'Course.. you'll have to strip it of everything else... tank, carb, outer & inner primary's, most importantly, the battery box, starter, etc. For myself, I didn't try to take the trans and motor out still together.. but I think that too can be done. Once you get the battery box out of the way, you will have all kinds of room in there.

Edit: The motor is pretty freaking heavy by the way. Don't let it's "huggable" size fool you.
