Will a primary cover from a 2002 soft tail deuce fit my 2002 Super Glide FXD? a buddy has a chrome one he will give me to replace my polished (not so polished anymore) aluminum one.

I'm about 80% sure that will work ... I don't think those years' Softail primary covers had a cast cover over the chain tensioner inspection hole (where the mid-control shifter shaft came through) ... so, I think you could use your cover .... You still running mid's or went to forward controls ...?

Not a 100%, but pretty sure ....

i switched to forward controls. But i still have the shaft. I just covered it with the little chrome cap so I can go back to mids if I ever want.

2002 softail had an inspection cover.
although so should a 2002 dyna.
I've never known them to be interchangeable.
Softails and dynas are 2 different beasts.

you need part # 60543-99B

fits 99-05 dyna and 99-06 softails.

you will need your inspection cover though for the shift shaft

I was thinking that they would be interchangeable, because when I was investigating the purchase of my belt drive primary the part for those years (as referenced by HDTech74) were the same P/N for both Softail and Dynas ....

Just wasn't sure if there might have been a slight difference in the bolt pattern or the inspection cover on the primary covers ... think maybe that came later ....
