over-shifting on downshift?
Any of you guys had this problem? When I downshift, I often wind up in a sort of neutral position, below the gear I downshifted to. Twist the throttle and it's like I'm in neutral. Click it up once and I'm in the gear I was downshifting to. It happens most every day! I recently changed the primary fluid but it did it before the change. I measured out the proper amount of Syn3 and then visually checked to make sure it was the right level. By the way, that Syn3 crap has increased my shift effort and made it difficult at times to find neutral.
I have not got that, but I have heavy footed it and dropped 2 gears twice. If you have not changed riding style that could be a problem to check. My (unfixed) Hendersons did that due to a bad bushing set.
My first question would be have you recently changed fluids ? IF you added just an once to much that can happen same way if stopped and trying to get N . Next i would check all Linkage . then i would look inside for problems.
I ride a 87 dyna sometimes that does that b/n 5th and 4th (not sure what it is off of but the tranny has been changed)but none of the other bikes I ride or own does that.
Yep, recently changed fluids and measured the exact amount of the system, then eyeballed it to make sure the level was right. It did the same thing before the fluid change.
Clutch cable need adjustment?
Check behind the derby cover to see if the lock nut came loose on the adjusting rod and maybe the rod backed out.
Check the manual.
