I just need to vent a little so here goes. I am having a horrible day. Hate my job - working for the state of NY sucks - never know if our governor is going to pay us or lay us off, boss is an a$$, everyone seems incompetant today. Just your average monday - on a Tuesday. Leave work with an amazing, blow your head off headache and come home to see my husband washed my bike off from this weekends bike ride-vacation in the pouring rain and the sun way shining - finally. Hubby doesn't want to ride but his best friend shows up and says he needs to take a little spin so I take off with him for a small ride. We get on the thruway and cruise - I, of course, am in the lead. All of the sudden, my bad day is gone. The wind, the speed, the power of my bob just took it all away. Bad day all gone. Makes one remember why they ride (Almost forgot after 2 hours in a downpour coming home from vacation). Sometime I guess I just take my bike for granted and times like today I just realize how much peace my HD gives me. Thanks for listening to this ramble. Just had to let it out.
Hop off the Thruway on 203 and run it out to Austerlitz. Grab 22 and head north til you hit 295. Take that through Canaan to East Chatham then grab 9 and run it back down. Nothing like a beautiful ride on some country roads through the foothills to put things back in perspective.
I've Known that for 32 some odd Years now.
Was without a Harley for a couple of years - Worst years of my life. (last time I listen to a Doctors advice)
Enjoy the feeling ain't nothing like a clear head.

I am completely amazed that you know this area. This backwoods, backwards area is not usually on most people's radar. Of course, as a dept of transportation worker, I know to NEVER ride my bike on route 22. Faqr too many holes and we don't fix them around here - no money in this state for blacktop repairs. Unfortunately, since I ride these roads at work each and every day, I don't want to ride anywhere near them on my days off. They are quite beautiful though. - Unless of course they look like the following::::

Hey! That backwoods, backwards area is where I grew up! My brother and his family still live there (on 203 near the thruway exit). Have to admit it's been many years (okay, a few decades) since I've been on any of those roads, but I remember them when they were apparently in much better shape.
I'm a Chatham High grad (class of 71) as are my two younger brothers. We lived in Chatham Center growing up, off 66.
