I'll be the first to say that I love the rear fender on my FB. Don't know what you're talking about.
I like mine too .I think its just that a lot of bikes now days have the rounded fender that is close to the tire and everyone seems to be going that route.
For me I have a luggage rack behind the sissy bar and I think the stock fender looks the best with it. Im not saying Im in love with the looks of the rack but I have a J riggs bag on it and I ride most every day and need it. If I went to saddle bags I guess the fender mod wouldnt look to bad.
I like the look of the stock fender better. Makes the bike look nice and long. That German fender looks like a wide glide fender. Why waste your time importing?
Do the 2010 wideglides have that large rear light on the rear fender? That is why I wanted to go with the U station fender. I am not crazy about the look of the fxdf rear light, but I hate the light on the rear fender of the 2010 wideglide shown in the picture in this thread. I want a clean rear fender. If a wideglide rear fender can be bought painted vivid black without mounting holes for the rear light on the fender then that is the route I am going.
I think that the stock rear fender is part of what makes the Fat Bob a Fat Bob, I wouldn't change mine. I especially think it looks good when saddlebags are added.
But it's all about personal preferences and making bikes our own; I can certainly understand looking for options. Between the German and the Wide Glide, I would personally go Wide Glide. Not that much of a difference to me.
jrwhitey - I am stationed in germany and took the time to also make contact with the german company here, yes they still make them, and are rather expensive. if I remember right it was about 600.00 EURO, which is like $900.00 USD. I took 08's advice and purchased the 2010 WG fender for about $180.00 USD saved a $hit ton! And yes, the stock seat will work, That's what I am rockin while I wait for Xian Leather to do up my lepara set I sent him.
