Default Shift Noise

I bought a used (08) Super Glide Custom with only 4335 miles. I absolutely love the bike, but I'm concerned about how noisy the tranny is. Everytime I shift, I get a loud clank! Fluids are fine and dealer says it's normal for a Dyna....anyone having the same situation?

Go on here: www.myoilshop.com and get a quart of redline shockproof heavy 75w250 gear oil and put it in your trans. If you don't want to buy on line then go to autozone and get a quart of Mobil1 75w140 gear oil and use that in the trans. Should quiet it down a bit.

H-D transmissions are a bit noisy but I like the feel of them. You know it's in gear when you make a shift and no false neutrals will be found.

Never heard a Harley that didn't have a loud clunk when shifting gears.

If it did not clunk there would be a problem

+1 on the Redline!

I use Redline V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProof in my bike; less clunk, smoother shifts, and easy to find neutral. In fact, I now use Redline products in all three holes; my dealer handles them.

BTW, you can easily run the RL or Mobil1 gear oil 20,000 miles in your trans. I change mine every 2-3 years. The RL tech said the SPH will go 30,000 miles.

They are all loud from what I have experienced, especially that loud clunk when going from Neutral to 1st.

The guy who tuned my bike, Clark@Hemrick Performance suggested the same thing after one of his test rides.
