The city of Boston passed an ordinance requiring an EPA stamp on pipes or pay a $300 fine. This is to combat noise issues. Now, my wimpy Cobra pipes on my former Yamaha were quieter than the stock pipes on my EG, but the Yamaha risked a ticket while the HD doesn't. Sure, that makes sense... Good luck, Maine.
When you read the "I want the loudest pipes/How do I pull my baffles" threads do you ever wonder why these laws are passed? It's coming to a City near you sooner then you think, there's money to be made writing tickets.
We have the same "not louder than stock law". The funniest part about it, is asking in court "What is the stock noise level ?" and getting blank stares from the prosecution and then asking "What is the noise level of my bike ?" and getting same blank stares.
Courts here don't accept the cop's "I know louder when I hear it" anymore. Makes the law basically unenforceable. I'm pretty sure Maine's courts won't judge any differently. Seriously, how do you know if it's louder than stock if you don't have any objective values to compare ?
Yeah and its more government control too... next yo will be cited for farting outdoors if your over the decibel limit! Yes there are idiots out there and they drive cars, trucks and the like with modified exhaust. what about the clowns running around with their stereos blasting friggin music i don't want to hear, bikes and cars? Thats very annoying to me!
They are bItchin about checkin illeagals for green cards yet they set up a road check and pull you in to check for DUI, loud exhaust or whatever else they feel lkie checking!

You have people blatantly running red lights, stop signs, speed limits and I am talking 20mph over killing other people in the process and I have yet to see anyone die from a loud exhaust... sure ya want to be an azzwipe and rev em then get in line for your ticket!
Im not the louder the better type, nor do I rev my motor for show but geez gotta like a lil growl ya know? I gues the states had some noise complaints but thats bound to happen there are ******** that drive everything. The state tried the helmet law and lost now there going after noise. I hate stock exhuast!! Recently they took a guy to court and lost because he said his pipes were for increased performance not noise, now they are rewriting the law to take effect july 12th.
