Default Wobble issue..True-Track. Help!

I thought I was crazy when I started feeling “wobble” on my new bike. Well, not new, but new to me. (Only 10K miles on the bike)

Here is my story:

My last bike was a 06 Sportster. Sweet looking bike, ok power, but handled great. I owned it for 2 years. Loved it! But, I was craving more power and the option to carry a passenger, so I sold her :>( and bought me a 05 Dyna.

My Sportster felt pretty good up until 70 mph. No wobble, just felt too light. My Dyna has much more power, but……it felt “loose” or felt like it had “too much play”. On the fwy, if I hit a bump or the tire catches a line in the road, it started to “wobble”. Yikes!! Scary!! (I tried tightening the suspension, adjusted the tire pressure. Next I will check to make sure the tires are balanced.)

Was I imagining it? I even spoke with a friend who has an older Dyna, a 96. He said his bike felt fine.

I read a post on here from one of the members, and followed a link to a company called “True-Track”. His description is similar to what I am experiencing. And his explanation seems to fit my story.

Has anyone else experienced this issue OR used True-Track? I really want to fix this soon. I like the bike, but if I have to deal with this, then I don’t think I will keep her. It makes me too uncomfortable when I’m riding.

Thanks

on the blue bar there is a search button....type true track into that and you will find hours of reading on this subject.

could also be neck bearings out of adjustment.

You may be rolling off the throttle during the bump.

Hmmmm True Track. Sounds familiar. Think it may have been discussed here a couple of times.

Just kiidding of course. It's probably one of the most discussed topics here.

I haven't felt the need for one but it seems like the majority of people who have installed them seem to feel it really improves the ride. Common quote is "bike rides like it's on rails". There are some who feel it increases vibration. Even a few who are ambivilent.

I think iIt is worth it for you to research. Should also look into Sputhe which makes a similar stabilizer.

what you describe is not normal, if you feel looseness could be neck bearing, wheel bearings, or tire balance, have it checked out first before buying an overpriced miracle which wouldn't work anyway if you have other underlying problems

Thanks. Correct tire pressure and stiffing the rear springs help a bit. I will check the tire balance next.

Have you figured out which end of the bike is causing the wobble?
If you're going in a straight line and you hit a large rain groove that causes the bike to wobble, its coming out of the front end. Check your head bearings and forks.

If youre in the middle of a curve and hit something that causes the rear suspension to compress, and the bike goes all wishy-washy (making control extremely difficult), then you need a true track.

One place I test bikes is on the southbound I-5 over the Alameda overpass at 90-100mph. If I have to fight the bike, it's getting a true track.
