you can't go wrong with a FXD. there are a bunch of them around used with very low miles and priced right. I'd say 2006 or later due to the changes that HD made to the bike. chrome is over rated - won't get you down the road...
FXDC is my first Harley and I think it is the most value for the money, plus I've always wanted this particular model. Power is more than adequate off the floor, but you'll probably want to do Stage 1 for a better and cooler running bike. Forward controls are awesome on the FXDC!
I have the 2010 FXDC and love it. As above, get the forwards, probably the best general upgrade to do.
Researching stage 1 options myself at the momnet, I am looking at a wimmer intake and a PCIII to start with, pipes will have to come in few months....
Whatever you choose your gonna enjoy, but you cant go too far wrong with a Dyna.
dude, I got my 1st harley last year, at 40, mine's a wide glide, ride it as much as I can, you will notice the difference coming from jap bikes but it's a whole different ride....hell I'd only ridden trail bikes before this, so IMO there's heaps of "get Up & go" with my bike..
Just bought my first Harley, A Fat Bob, at 40. Its certainly not as quick as my other bike (a Honda VFR750), but its quick enough and don't feel that I need to upgrade the performance (although I know in due course I will anyway).
I just got a 2009 Super Glide custom. Not only is it a great first bike, but a lot of people who have been riding for years have takin it for a quick spin and they love it too.
As long as you'd rather spend your time polishing chrome than riding.
Chrome don't get ya home.
I like polishing the bike. It's part of the experience. Chrome is easy to take care of. No, chrome don't get ya home but neither does any other mods that you put on. It's just a preference. A shiny preference.
After lot and lots of looking for a Harley and all of my friends with Harley's talked me out of getting a Sportster, I found a 2002 Dyna Super glide Sport T, with lots of goodies. I think I am real happy and have not desire to get anything different.
If your chrome don't get ya home... you're buying and installing the wrong chrome. The chrome on my '08 FXDC get's me home. I also believe the FXDC to be a good deal. But if you don't like spending 15 minutes cleaning ur bike... then stick with some dull looking thing...
Turn signal module adds an auxiliary brake light and running light function to your existing turn signals for auxiliary rear lighting. Red lenses glow when the headlamp is on, and increase in intensity when brakes or turn signals are activated.

Thanks for the replies everybody. The only mod I'd want right away would probably be forward controls so I can stretch out a little bit. Sounds like the Super Glide will do what I want.
Thats exactly what I thought and did. My 1st HD also with in the year I had almost 8000.00 in xtras on it, with chrome assy. new rims (hated trying to keep stock alum rims clean) so went with chrome rims. Then installed 103 kit all within the first year. Right now its back in with engine apart New rings compression releases and a few other mods. And before summer comes a oil cooler will be installed. I guess you can call it a work in progress thats never done Always finding something else to do to it. Plus it doesn't help that I ride it 12 months a year. this past year i put 18000 on it. Right now I'm going through withdrawls with it being in the shop. LOL Dont know if I'll ever get rid of it, will never get my money out of it that I put into it. Probably end up buying another one instead. WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID I HOPE I DIDN'T SCARE YOU OUT OF BUYING ONE LOL GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN WITH IT WHICH EVER WAY YOU GO.
First mod was an oil cooler. Then when I did the camchain conversion. I did the cams and I only did cams because I had to go in there. Bike had been rejeted(stage one) before I bought the bike. Had the bike been a later model with the new camchain I would have left it stock.
