Default 1st time changing oil on my 99 fxd

OK so i have an oil change question here.. I have a 99 fxd and am having some trouble. Does the bike have to be on a jack to change the oil? The frame sits too low for me to be able to get the allen wrench in the oil drain plug when the bike is on the kick stand. Will putting it on a jack give me some room (i only need about an 8th of an inch)? If i try any harder with the bike on the kick stand i am going to strip the plug because the wrench is on too much of an angle.

No, on the kickstand is fine. There are two ends to an Allen wrench, try the other. My drain plug can be removed with a Crescent wrench or sockets. This should not be that hard. I have a '97 WG.

Try putting a 2X4 under your kick stand

Something isnt right. There's a cross bar that runs right above the trans. The oil plug is facing the front of the bike, right under the cross bar on the left side of the trans. The cross bar isnt giving me enough clearance to get the allen wrench in the plug.. no matter what way i am holding it.

Are you sure you have the correct drain plug? On my '97 WG, it is towards the front on the Right side and there is no cross bar.

Maybe take a picture and post.
