Why not just change the rear pulley and belt? Probably close to the same price but you don't have to open anything up.
Na, the primary has to be opened to change the belt. Also, a new belt costs more than the replacement sprocket. A new front pulley is the most cost effective alternative.

If that quote includes everything all I can say is why don't you have it done yet? In the HD book it is a 3.5 hour job, most shops around here charge between 88 and 95 per hour, even the indies.
I don't know if you counted mine as 1 of the 4 but I did the mod. myself. I don't recall what it cost me - I bought the pulley, fluid, deep socket and Pulley Locking tool (George's Garage). I had the gasket set left over from the forward control kit. The only problem I had was getting the pulley nut off - had to borrow an impact gun. As far as being mechanically inclined - I'm about a 7.5 out of 10.
Anyway, love the mod. mostly for the use of 6th gear and I don't find myself going back and forth between 4th and 5th on my way to work.
I almost forgot - I upgraded the compensator sprocket. I no longer get the loud bang I used to when I start it up.
If you like to wrench - just do it but it also sounds pretty reasonable to drop it off and then pick it up with a guarantee.
I have been all over around home the last 3 day's riding my Harley. Like
Jimmie Jack said I do find myself shifting back and forth from 6th to 5th sometimes. But most of the time it's fine in 6th, I don't feel like that's a big problem. My main reason to do this mod is for performance. If I was sure it would make my bike noticeably accelerate faster,so my bike would get to 100 mph quicker, I would do it and feel the $ would be worth it. Some say it really makes the bike rip through the gears faster and some down play that and are just happy with the 6th gear. I think in about 3 weeks or so I will have the $ to do it. Until then I will continue to research this and try to come to a final decision...Thanks
You claim to love performance, yet you have stock engines in your rides.....There is a whole nother world out there brother!!!
'Did you read this'
I have been doing some research and I can only find 4 guys on the web that have done this to a stock 96" with stage-1, some love it and said the bike defiantly accelerates faster and some say it just makes it faster on hole shots. All of them likes the 6th gear better with this mod. My main reason to do this is to accelerate faster with a stock motor. I have never touched the inside of any motor I have ever had. I will bolt on any thing to make my sleds or bikes run faster but it's very impotent for me, that I can look some one in the eye and say my motor is completely stock. I know some will not understand my thinking even I don't know why I feel this way, but I cant help it. So that's the reason this mod attracts me. Looks like I might pic up a good size job that would put this mod with in my reach in about 4 weeks. So for now I will continue to read up and research this mod. I must know for sure the ends will justify the means...Thanks.

I cant explain it any better then that. I want my rides to be as fast as possible with a STOCK motor. I have never had my bike Dyno tuned so I might put my $ in to that first and see if I get a gain in performance. I do thank you for your advice.
