how do you know this and where did it come out? I changed mine and put in one quart and it's been leaking since. Dealer said it was inner primary bearing (I got the '07) and I been putting the fix off till later. If i shoulda only out in most of a quart it will stop leaking?
You really want to know? I asked someone on here (or another forum, can't remember now) before I bought my Clymer manual and was told to fill it to the bottom of the outer metal ring (oil thrower) - the one on the outside of the clutchplates. It should only be filled to the bigger dia ring which is partially hidden. (it goes without saying that this is with the bike upright). Result was the oil started to weep from all around the inside of the primary case on a long run when the oil got nice and hot. I drained it and there was 1.4 litres in there! My manual had arrived by then and when I checked the capacity from dry and should have only been 768 ml - no wonder it leaked.
1 quart is too much, forget capacities and go by filling to the bottom of the clutch ring - if you go over 800 ml you're filling to the wrong ring. Mines never leaked a drop since.
yeah mine leaks all down the inside too. I just been parking on cardboard for the last 6,000 miles. I opened it up 4 times to see if I had anything left in there, measured what came out then in the measuring cup topped off the bit i was missing to make 32 ounces and put it back in. I only ever loose a couple ounces and haven't been too worried but now I'm not going to check for a while and change my cardboard in a few more weeks and see. Thanks for the info.
06> Dynas take 32oz in the primary. OR just to the bottom of the clutch basket. If you overfill you will notice your clutch slips a bit. You can use the following oils:
HD formula+
HD Syn3 20w50
Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 or 10w40
TypeF ATF
Mobil1ATF
Redline MTL
Amsoil 20w50 or 10w40
Most any auto 10w40
BM trickshift
Mine leaks, but I'm pretty sure it's the o-ring on the drain plug.
If you overtighten the drain plug it can cause the o-ring to leak. When we were down at the dragon earlier this year one of the guys had this problem. If too tight it forces the o-ring out of position so we discovered on his bike.
