the bottom guard is *** f*cking ugly.

i took that plastic dingleberry off as soon as i took the bike home.

the top one i've had on and off intermittently. some days i say the bike looks cleaner without, some days i say it looks more finished with...

funny part is, the bottom guard is what's gonna protect my belt, and that's the one that's in the trash.

both off

top only

I took mine off then put them back on after noticing that the pulley looked like it was getting abraded from road sand/dirt. To clean it up a bit I altered the lower belt guard. I matched the radius of the pulley, trimmed the bottom so its level with the bottom of the belt, and cut out some of that triangle.

Cool

This is a wound in the belt on my bike caused by a small sharp stone. You can also see the marks the stone made on the pulley. After a few thousand miles the small wound grew until I decided it was too risky to carry on riding with it. So the belt life was shortened to much less than usual.

A friend took his guards off and within days picked up a far larger stone that wrote off his belt and wrecked both pulleys. Personally I have the guards on all three of my bikes. Compared with a damaged belt they are things of great beauty!

I have both guards removed and live in an area where the roads just suck. Always some sort of debris on the roads from sand to small gravel. I have yet to find any damage to my belt/pulleys. I check them often.

Just bought one for my bike so that I could mount a solo bag. Never had any problem without it though.
