I don't trust the neutral light. Never have, never will.

Habit, I guess. From the 'old days' when there was no such thing.

Now watch, I talk trash then I'll forget and start the bike in gear.

If I can remember correctly my 06 S/B had a recall on the
neutral indicator. brought it back to dealer and was fixed
for no charge.

I don't trust the neutral indicator light either. Ialways hold in the clutch when starting the bike.

Speaking of indicator lights....How does the 6th gear indicator work? The reason I ask, I notice mine will go out when in 6th with the clutch pulled in. Obviously its not a connection on the shift drum because its still in gear. Does the ECM read MPH vs RPM to calculate when you are in 6th?

My MSF instructor called it a "green light indicator" - meaning it proves the green light works.

I too tend to ease of the clutch just to be sure, but my FXDC hasn't been wrong once since I got it a month ago (though I HAVE forgotten to look a couple of times before thinking it's in neutral and popping the lever out).

Doubt it since it never thinks that when I start out in 2nd (or 3rd a couple of times).
