I like that handcuff idea and already have a couple of them. As for the keys being common...I doubt too many potential theives are carrying them around to bike rallys with the intent on stealing helmets!
I use a Master lock python cable lock to lock up my helmet and leather jacket. The cable is 6' in length and I feed it through the sleeves and D ring of the helmet and then to the bike. http://www.masterlockcycle.com/product_python.shtml
I'm so stealing that padlock idea. For the life of me I can't understand why that theory escaped me. Its so simple and obvious, yet it never occured to me to lock the helmet to the bike. I will from now on. I just put a small padlock on the bike and a key on each of my bike keyrings. Dang, problem solved. Thanks!
If you feel better knowing its locked get the license plate lock or the down tube locks. They are easy and gives you a piece of mind. I have left stuff on my bike in the past and never had a problem, but that is so far. I also have a CCW and carry and never had a problem, doesn't really mean it won't happen! I prefer the security feeling so I would do the locks.
I installed the Harley helmet locks on each passenger foot peg mount. Works.
Same here - HD's lock in ~$18 and works. Put one on the Street Glide engine guard & have locked two FF helmets together...works, but the handcuff idea's pretty cool from earlier post.
