Hi there guys (and gals), has anyone come across a rocking gear shift conversion that would suit a Bob? I'm not sure about mids or forwards yet but my bike arrives next Saturday (with luck) and I really struggle to shift up by pulling with my foot (accident damage). I could really do with a rocking shifter just nicely curved to miss the clutch housing to let me stomp down front or back to shift.
Footboards would be nice as well! I suppose i should have ordered a fatboy really but I can't afford the extra 8 large.
Not real sure, but while looking through jp cycles online for stirrups and hand grips remember seeing something like you refer to. Call jp, their staff seem to be pretty knowledgeable. After you talk with them you can go online and see the part. Hope this helps.
also try to grab the shifter with your left heel. I have highway pegs and I dont shift with the toe of my left foot. I just use my heel, or the nook above the heel (achilles tendon) to pull the shifter up, works for me, try it out.
I bought an extended shifter lever from Dennis Kirk.......works great on mid controls when you have bigger boots than will fit on the stock controls. They might have what you are looking for.
Many thanks y'all, I will follow up on the leads you gave me, although it will probably be on the interweb (less trouble than using the telephone from here). I have tried using the crook of my heel before and it's OK for short trips and straight roads, the problem being here (in the UK) you are shifting about every 50 yards!!
My guess regarding the RK and similar shifters is that the Bob primary proportions look shorter than the softails and there doesn't look to be too much room from the shifter shaft back to the clutch swelling. I think I might have to make a custom part that just clears the case profile. If I get it together I'll let you guys know how it comes out.
