I don't have the detachable side plates, but have had the easy brackets for a few years and have had nothing but good experience with them. Only thing I have found that i did not like about them is the rattle when little weight is in them.

+1 me too other than that the system works well for me. I tuck the yolk around the brackets to cover the gap

I went with Edge brackets.
Other than stripping a fender strut bolt which is replaced with a bolt from the kit, installation was no problem for me and I'm a novice wrencher.
They do rattle when empty but if they are empty I take 'em off the bike and leave 'em in the garage.
After all, that's the whole point in using them.
edge brackets are the best in the biz in my opinon bud... they ahve worked great for me but liek any custom application you may have to do some modding... i have installed them on prob 9 bikes now and never had a problem
Man, if you don't like the store bought stuff, just make it yourself. Its really pretty easy. That way its as close or far as you like to the fender, and mounted just where you want them. My mounts cost me about 9 dollars plus my used throw-over brackets.
I have easy brackets on the FXDF....no problems. I have had them for over 2 years. At 1st my left side was a little stiff while putting on. So I did what I guess every one does here "made it work" a little cutting. The dremel tool rules!
I bought some EZ brackets too. First I find out that 99 Wide Glides have two different mounting distances for detachable sissybars and of course mine was the wrong one. EZ bracket doesn't sell one for 12.5" so I had to modify them. First day trying them I find out that one of the locks breaks so I was stuck at work with bags I couldn't get back on the bike. I got them home the next day and took the lock apart to fix the issue. Just aggravating to say the least!
