I just got back from one of the local indys. They are one of the best around and they gave me a quote on new cams, head work and, adjustable pushrods. It would be around $2500. It is a package that they have done alot of and should give me around 100 horsepower. A friend of mine had it done to his RoadKing and swears by it. Or I could go the cheap route and just get a set of cams but I don't know if I would be satisfied with that.
I used to have a bike that had a 100" Revtech motor and it was so much stronger than the 96" HD I would realy like to get back to that kind of power.
I can't do the work myself so thats out of the question. It would take a good chunk out of my savings but I could swing it. Anyway what do you guys think?
andrews 54h cams and adj pushrods 350.00, big boyz head work 299.00 plus shipping, .030 head gasket, oil, gaskets ect, 100.00 thats $716.00 and a couple nights with your manual and your there!!! You can go 103" for another 400.00!!! there qoute seems way out of line to me, but thats me. When I get home from my trip, I am ripping mine down, for the 54h cams, pushrods, mr bean at big boyz is gonna do a "street port" and cc the heads, mill them to get as close to 10 da 1 as we can!
That sounds a little high. That is about where you want to be power wise, well for a reasonable project.....never enough!! A good set of cams will wake up your bike, a good set of heads and cams will really wake up your bike!! I would get some parts quotes and talk to at least one or two more shops. It will be fun with that work done!!
100hp for $2500? I guess man. I'll be honest with you. Between the big bore kit, cam, used heads from the classifieds here, and all the tools and gaskets to install said parts....I have less than $2000 into my bike. The tools...that's a third of the budget. So, for all of that, I will venture that I'm pushing over 100hp and more importantly, close to 100ft/lb of torque. I'll get the numbers after the Bash once I break this baby in.
It's all what you are comfortable spending. I'm a stingy bastard and I don't like anyone touching my bike but me. If you are comfortable letting your indy charge you to touch your bike, then spend the money. I'd get a guarantee if they are promising numbers from it.
I have the $299.[with cc'ing and shipping $375.] port job, $228. cams and $150. rockers, with all gaskets it was still less than $1,000. I did the work myself and saved a good bit. If your heads are coming off for porting you might pass on the adjustable pushrods depending cam selection the stock ones are fine for most cams.
