Let me ask a question that may have an obvious answer, but I dunno.

The FatBob comes stock with 12 inch shocks, will longer shocks fit? Does it make sense to fit longer shocks?

The 13" Ricors ROCK my Fatbob! The bike feels like it's running on its tip-toes ready to dive into the next hairpin. I'm really glad Brian talked me into going longer instead of shorter.

Thanks for posting this Brian. I was thinking today that I needed to update the thread but you beat me to it. Thanks for all the communications and work on this so far.

So, is it necessary to go to a 13" Ricors shock to get a smooth ride? I mean that is great if you are tall. I have the stock 12" and I can just flat foot at stops, but I would like to drop down 1/2" with shocks. I cant change my seat because of back problems. Is there any 11 1/2" shock made, that can give at least a little bit better and smoother ride then the stock ones with out bottoming out to much?... OK, I went back and seen that 'joe297' said the 11 1/2" progressive 440 did work out for him, I will do some more research on them... Thanks.

Rounder has the 12" Ricors if you wanted to contact him or see some of his posts.

We do make 11-1/2" but would recommend using the 12" or the 12.5" and running additional sag to get the ride height you want.

yeah I have 12" shocks and they are outstanding for me. I have the sport tuned version. I have ceased to set my preload to an exact % and I set them up for the best overall feel to match the front end. I do have them set to bottom on the worst of bumps I experience. The bottoming is very soft and I almost don't know it happens unless I am paying strict attention to it. I increase the preload 4 turns to ride with the wife. She adds about 110lbs to the mix. I can ride the bike fine set in 2up mode, however it is a little stiff so I just spend 15 seconds readjusting back after a 2up ride. If your rides consist of hitting potholes at highway speeds and other rough terain, I think longerl than 12" are needed. Here in Fl. the roads are handled just fine with 12" shocks for me(and I am very picky about my ride quality and handling feel).

That is precisely my problem. There are some crappy roads here and I seem to have the knack for hitting every bad bump out there for some reason. I am looking forward to getting the 13" ones for my bike.

You can use the 13" with 1" lowering blocks and don't buy the hype that the blocks will significantly affect the action of the shocks. Just make sure you have adequate clearance for the additional travel and I don't see whee you would.

Now that is a very interesting idea. So if I got 12 1/2" shocks with a 1" lowering block that would drop me the 1/2" I want with a extra 1/2" of shock travel right?

Exactly. Now people are thinking out of the box. I upgraded to longer than stock 13 inch Progressive 440's and added one inch lowering blocks. Viola....a bike that sits with the look of 12 inch shocks and has the travel of 13's.
