I just took my heavy breather off and put a Zippers maxflow on. I got the cover on ebay. I like this look alot better. You can see the motor alot better.
is there any performance difference between the big sucker and the se air cleaner?
Zero. It's basically the same thing, only the Ness backing plate comes in chrome & ports the oil internally instead of the ugly black rubber tubes HD uses. I had the SE air cleaner, but changed to the big sucker purely for cosmetic reasons.
does either contribute to the deep burly growl sound i am looking for?
Nope. Get a set of pipes w/ Big City Thunder Monster Baffles and a tuner and you'll be happy. Want to be happier? Change out your cam...

i like the big sucker, but i am not sure how i feel about it be exposed all the time and their cover options are weak. i would like to find a black cover for it, might have to find a custom site.
In typical HD fashion they nickel and dime you on the SE. Like you have to buy the chrome backing plate extra, then the cover, then the inserts. Its bull. Just get an Arlen Ness in chrome. I got mine from eastern PC and it was like $115.00 shipped and I got it in chrome and 2 in 2 days Call Eastern Performance Cycles. Super nice and you can get a outerwear from outerwears.com
Just my 2 cents, but I heard the Big Sucker is made in China, if so, I wouldn't put it on my bike. Anybody know if this is true? The Ness website pics doesn't say, all you can read is "made in ". I will be going with a Wimmer Better Sucker when I finally get back from Asscrackistan. Plus the Wimmer is billet instead of cast like the Big Sucker.

Been running an exposed filter from day 1 without a single problem. But if you want the stock football cover - put it on.
The air filter mounts to the backing plate & the cover mounts to the filter. You don't need the SE backing plate to retain the stock cover.

cool, sounds like a plan. thanks for everyone's input.
At first I could not stand the way that the Heavy breather looked, but over time it has started to grow on me, as for any of the others, I dunno never tried any of them.
