Tires

You should put the matching SE front tire on when you do the rear, it makes an amazing difference. oregonrider.

I plan on doing that when the front wears down some more. Just got too much tread on it to change it now.
I thought about going to radials but got such a deal on the SE I couldn't pass it up. I'm real happy with the handling. It changed for the good.
I'm going to start looking for the front and a new rear. Looks like I'm going to run through at least one rear or more a year. Most people I know do about a 2 to 1 rear to front.

You don’t change your tires (front/rear) as the same time ? If I did that I wouldn’t make it through half the twisty’s : - ) seems like I always change them both at the same time.

wlbowers, if you're a mellow rider you may get away with that POS front tire. I'm a jammer in the corners and made that mistake back in the '90s with a 1200 sporty. Replaced the rear with an Avon but didn't change the front. went into a curve doing 90, got on the brakes and then had to tighten my line to avoid some large rocks. Front tire washed out and I had the worst crash in all my years of riding. Now I always match profile and compound of front and rear tires. oregonrider.

There’s your school of hard knocks !!
Sorry to hear that oregonrider but sounds like you lived through it and your helping others just by telling it.
And never too, make it twice in a row.
Different tire tread design, compound on a bike never, different tread depth on the same match set never. Change them is pairs IMO.

Well you can be sure I won't be diving into any corners at 90 without knowing what the handling is with the new rubber.
I always address the ride with care whenever any major changes are made. If I have any issues I will change the front out.
Until then Everybody ride with care.

Where did you read that you don't really need the kit?
My tire was installed when I bought the bike and I haven't checked for any brackets, I don't even know where to look, but if a manufacturer says you need a kit then who would you trust?

I had over a 1000 miles on that combo when the accident happened. My point was that a harder compound front over the back is a no-no to be avoided. If the rear tire slides out on you it is easier to recover. When a front tire lets go the bike is gone out from under you in a nanosecond. I had no issues before that happened. oregonrider.

I already have the braces from the saddle bags, and I got a second pair for the turn signal relocation kit. I had already rerouted the wires when I did the turn signals.
The mechanic cut off the bolts.
They want $265 for the kit. I got the tire for $153

Your right, hearing something before hand (thanks, oregonrider) or hind sight, always sets a pause in somebody who hasn’t experience or heard of a fact.
Never mind the 90mph in the corners.
Don’t forget the rain ! if the front tire hydro/planes off track, because of the lack of thread depth, you too could graduate from the school of hard knocks, there is another fact : - )
take care wlbowers,
cj
Change them, in pairs !
