Then you compare the V-tune suggestions to your existing map and modify it. After several attempts your bike will be 95% of what it would be after being tuned on a dyno.

The SERT is more powerful than a PCV. It just takes some time to learn it. You can buy the CD and cable and tune the bike yourself...

ditto, the wow factor reported here is from riding a bike closer to optimum tune.. one that perhaps had some issues from the factory. If the OP now moves on to a TTS kit (VTune) or SESPT (smart tune) he will be saying, "wow I never knew this bike could run so good all around!" (as many here have reported).

Shorty, just use smart tune, or hire a competent dynotuner to tune it for you, you won't be sorry. Doesn't make sense to downgrading to a PCV when for some sweat equity you can dial it in yourself, or for about the same amount of $$ you can have someone dial it in for you to suit your riding style.

PCVs do a good job at what they do.

How much does it cost to have your Harley dyno at a dealership? I am in the process of adding a set of SE exhaust and SE intake on my 2010 Fat Bob and was wondering how would be the best way to approaching any tuning issues I might run into. being new to this motorcycle thing I still don't understand all these dynes, power commanders and such.

I am curious, do you have a true SERT of just the Stage 1 download, what did it cost for the setup?
I ask because there is a HUGE difference between the 2 and your description sounds like a Stage 1 download.

Tucson HD charges about 600 bucks to put your bike on a dyno for three hours and professionally tune it. That's after you lay down $459 for the SERT. Plus $500+ for your exhaust and about $300 for your air cleaner. Oh yeah, plus the cost of installation. Labor $100/hr. My wife is calling this an "expensive hobby" Can I please win the lottery!?!?!

If you just didn't have to put thousands into equipment up front, and liability insurance. Takes a lot of tunes to pay for that equipment.

Like I said, unfortunately I know less than nothing about this stuff. This was my first EFI bike; all I know is when I bought it I bought the short shots and SE air cleaner and had then installed before delivery. Dealer said I needed a SERT and said it was way better than a PC. All I know is that when I picked it up they gave me a little black box with a red button on it and said anytime I brought it in for tuning issues that I had to bring that box with me; they said it was married to my VIN. It says "Screaming Eagle Pro Race Tuner" on it. Hell, tell you how little I understand about this, when I got it home I looked under seat looking for where my SERT had been installed. Couldn't find it. Called the dealer to complain about my missing SERT. I'm sure they had a good laugh on me.

Two things I've been told since then: I didn't need to buy anything for a simple exhaust and AC install, bike would self adjust and run fine without it and secondly, since I've moved I went down to my new local dealer and he said I was screwed because I didn't have a digital copy of the map that my original dealer downloaded.

IS ANY OF THIS TRUE?? I really appreciate everyone's input. Sorry for sort of hijacking this thread...

What is "smart tune"? Also I would love to find and hire a competent tuner. I live in Houston so it think it would be easy. Fact is everytime I ask someone about where they had their bike tuned they say "I took it to so-and-so but don't take it there because they suck???
