I recently shipped my bike from Northern NJ to Richmond VA, it turned out to be quite a pleasant experience. I booked through Motorcycle Movers, the act as an agent and find the drivers/trucks. The Quote was 325.00 for enclosed transport, about 35 bucks less for open.
I expected a 3-4 day wait before they found a transporter, and a week to three weeks for delivery. I was quite surprised to get a call the next day (a Wed) asking if the Bike could be Picked up Friday Morning and Delivered Monday. That worked for me, the only catch it was an open trailer at the enclosed rate. The Speed of Delivery was worth it.
About 10:30 Monday Morning I get a Call from Chuck, the Driver... he's outside.
Chuck has a Trailer behind his pick up with my Ride on it well secured, we unload it and he helps me throw the cover on.
Chuck works out of Berlin MD, so if any of you need to ship within several hundred miles....give him a call at 410 603 6996.
ALLRIGHTYTHEN, I thought the topic may have been up for an exchange of ideas as I have looked into shipping from Albany NY to Tampa FL and wanted your take on short distance shipping vs long distance shipping. I got a quote from JC Motors for $500.00 door to door from Albany to Tampa. You obviously have unspeakable issues that delegated shipping as opposed to an afternoon ride.
No unspeakable issues, all discussed in an earlier thread. 500 Sounds like a good price for that distance. I lucked out with a regional guy and got quick pickup/delivery. If I had to wait for a National Transporter..... a regular vehicle transporter i would have had to wait up to a week for pick up plus1-3 weeks for delivery and I only had 350 miles to ship.
My post was placed to let guys in the mid-atlantic area there is a reliable guy around,oh fully Insured too.
Edit: "Afternoon ride"? It's 6 hours average in a car with no traffic, once it took me 12 hours, everything that could go wrong with traffic did.
Wow..that seems a little arrogant, Jon. I was going to ask the same thing re: why didn't you just ride it. Wouldn't have taken you ~8hrs and you would have had the satisfaction of riding it.
Sorry if that sounded arrogant, it wasn't meant to. But since everyone wants to know, the NJ Plate was turned in, it was not yet registered nor Insured in VA, I am in VA the Bike was in NJ and I also had a Duffle of Parts and Gear going with it. I also have other stuff going on like furniture delivery's, renovations and a sick Dog.
