First Time Harley Owner
Hows it going. I have been riding bikes for a while, always wanted a Harley and finally got one this weekend. I got a 97 Lowrider with about 26,000 miles on it. It needs a little work (dents on each side of the tank) but overall I am thrilled with it. I tried to attach some pictures but I dont think it is letting me.
Anyway, I went for a ride last night and it was still a little warm out (I live in Houston). I got stuck in some traffic at a red light and sat there for about 7-10 minutes, the motor started making a pinging sound and running like #$%&, oil pressure was also pretty low. After I finally got passed the red light and got on my way it started to get better. I got to my destination and let her cool off a little and then she ran like normal.
I dont know what exactly is done to my motor, but I know it has Screamin Eagle heads, the guy says it has a Screaming Eagle cam, and it also has an S&S Carb.
Just curious if this is normal when these motors sit in traffic or if there is something I need to look out for.

dude, your engine was probably overheating. Idling for that long in hot, humid weather like houston isn't the best thing. The people at Tucson HD advised me to shut the engine off if I have to wait that long in traffic (red light,train, etc.)

Congrats on the ride. Got a '98 wide glide and don't think I'll ever part with it. Riding the ever lovin snot out of it and if I get others it will be in addition to this one.

i here ya ...welcome to the h-d family ..i live in east tx ...hotter than a pentecostals preachers middle daughter here..remember that oil cooler works when your movin ....shut it down if you wait long ...

forgot to add that when it hot as its been .....some engines with high lift cams act a little cranky when the fuel is basically vaporizing before it has time to ignite ... later
