I am in the USAF stationed in Korea and was due to rotate back to the US next year. I had ordered a Road King Classic through HD's military sales program and was scheduled to pick it up next Spring. I just decided to extended my time here through 2008 and canceled the Road King order and bought one of the few big bikes HD sells over here. They sell lots of Sportsters and they only get a few bike bikes in every year. They just received a shipment of a few Deuces, Soft Tail Standards, other Dyna series and one Wide Glide. The bikes are scattered throughout the different bases over here and I purchased it sight unseen. I will pick it up in a week at the HD dealership in Seoul. I read a lot of reviews of various bikes and decided to go with the WG.

For those of you that have experience on Wide Glides I would appreciate any advice (modifications, quirks, web sites, etc). Most of my riding will be done on base but I will take weekend trips on the back roads (35-60 MPH).

Thanks in advance for your advise and assistance.

Rich

Well, the only web site I surf to for Harley info. is right here. I've had no "quirks" or problems really to speak of. I'm going this friday to the shop to have the fuel injectors looked at, I've noticed a tiny little bit of sputter at certain RPMs. With no tach I don't know what the exact # is. I'll up date if they are replaced, or not. Congrats on the new ride. I still think the W.G. is the toughest looking bike on the road. Oh, and by the way :

The only quirk to the WG is the clunk in the steering. You'll hear it when you hit a bump. It's not dangerous in any way. It's just annoying. You can fix it when you get back to the states.

Even that clunk is intermittent...once in a while you'll hear it, and I've heard from more than one person in the know that it's related to the floating rotors. I can't confirm 100 percent if that is correct...just what I've been told. Either way, it shouldn't be a concern.

As far as the bike is concerned....for me, it was the perfect choice. Not only does it look really cool right out of the box, it's really comfortable right out of the box as well. Forward controls are stock, so you'll be nice and relaxed from the minute you sit on it. No feeling cramped on this bike. I've done way too many upgrades to mention here (mostly chrome and bolt ons) but the things that I would say that are must upgrades are probably just the stage 1/exhaust....(HD claims a better sounding stock exhaust on the 07s...didn't sound that much better to me when I was test riding the 07s), and a new seat. The stock seat isn't terrible...but after an hour in it, you're rear will be crying for something else. I upgraded to a 'pillow-look' seat for two-up riding, and I got a sidekick custom seat for when I'm riding solo. Any other upgrades are really up to you...and none are really necessary with this bike as it's great just as it is.
Good luck, and please post some pics when you have it.

Todd

I'd do the tail light modification Kit Number 69462-06. It converts your yellow turn signals on the rear to red turn signal/brake lights. When you apply the brakes the rear end will light up and may prevent someone from smashing into you. In the kit you will get some electrical connectors that need to be installed under the seat (easy), and also new red lenses. I think it's probably one of the most worthwhile things you can do.
