I am in the same situation (thinking of doing the download after putting my new SE A/C on).
What is the maximum miles you would ride to get to the dealer running with the stock download, screaming eagle slip-ons, and the SE A/C? (My dealer is about 10 miles away)
from what i have read i would not risk the air cleaner and slipons with no down load u can get away with the slip ons for a while i have been runing mine for 600 miles but i would not risk the aircleaner without the download first
I asked our service person about needing a download with the Dyna slash down mufflers for my '06 Superglide and he told me that it wouldn't need one for the pipes and could put the high volume A/C on without it. I believe it with the slipons, but according to the parts manual a download is needed for the high volume A/C. I'll be investigating this futher.
Do they do any other tuning to the bike when they do a download? I would hate to send the bike to them with the stock A/C and then switch it out as soon as I get home. Do you think the 10 mile ride would hurt it?

Mine said the same thing. But added, bring it in if it's running to hot
or popping to much. I don't know........have to think on that one. LOL
I ran my Bob without the download and just slipons. Was OK but it ran much better with the download. Ran it with stock A/C and slipons + download. Ran much better. However, running the slipons and A/C without the download is not good. The bike is already lean from the factory. I can't imagine it would even remotely be a consideration to run it with a wide open in/out without the download. Get the download and then put on your A/C.
i was gonna go with a PC III . but i dont really like all the wires and sencer eliminators .. so i was thinking if i only have slip ons and a high flow air cleaner can i just get the down load from harley ? what are the PROS and CONS of there down load i have slip ons on the bike now with no popping seems to run very well but i want to do the airfilter and harley said there are 2 down loads they can do eather a stage 1 or a race download .. thanks for your help on this matter
also if i have problems with the download can they redownload the factory specs ?
I just put the SEII's and the K&N air filter on my Low Rider. I bought a SERT on ebay for a steal and got the latest software. There are two files on the disk for 1450 with the 25 degree, SEII's and the AC.
I put the first one in and will run that for a while. With the SERT they have a diagnostic mode. You can hook up the laptop and go riding. It will log what is going on and you can tune a map from that data.
I also have a map file that a member has sent me. I'm thinking about putting that one in to see what it does.
Take the air cleaner kit with you. It takes about 10 minutes to put it on. You can do it in the parking lot.
i am pretty much sold on the RACE download . if they can put the ecm back to stock i have nothing to lose if the bike does not act right with it .. from what i have read the race download is the only way to go. i have not heard of any problems
After I got my 06 Dyna I installed the SE Slip-ons and the SE A/C with the Techlusion DFO. Ran great around town and on short trips. In July me and a buddy went on a long trip from Canada (Alberta) to Washington State. While going through the mountains and then over to Tacoma it started runny really rough.
Got home and took off the DFO and went to the dealer and got the race download done and the bike ran really well less vibration and no popping. I then put the DFO back on and the bike runs excellent.
I like the idea of having the HD download incase the DFO craps out.
