I have been thinking about purchasing a bobtail fender rack for my Fat Bob or a luggage rack for the sissy bar. However, I was sort of leaning towards the fender rack due to looks. I was looking for some advice and pics of what rack you have and your opinions on them.
There's quite a few to choose from at a wide variety of prices..
HD from dealer: $99
Bikers Choice from powersports360.com: $50
Drag Specialites from ebay: $52
Any one have purchased these? What do you think of the quality?
I have the luggage rack that is attached to the sissy bar like the picture hbomb posted. I am not too keen on the looks. I think it looks ok but not great looking.
My opinion, these bobtail racks do not hold a lotta weight and have a tendency to dent the fender at the screw hole if you overload. They are more decorative than functional, but OK for light weight. If you are going to carry more than 10-20 pounds, then you should think about racks tied to the fender braces.
I modified a HD detachable solo rack, that is a sturdy piece of equipment. Pictures in my photo album
Have I got a deal for you ... I sold my Fat Bob last week (traded to a Road Glide). I have the Fat Bob Fender Rack, AND the tail light assembly you have to drill holes in to mount the rack. The Rack is in excellent shape, as is the taillight. I'd sell BOTH to you for $50 plus shipping if you're interested.
