Default Question On Turn Signal Relocation Kit 53968-06C

I’ve got a really obscure question for you guys that I’m sure nobody has a clue about, but I thought I would give it a shot…..

My turn signal relocation kit 53968-06C for my detachable mounting hardware – has broken……the inside tube for the wires with the threads on it has broken in half I believe. It should be one long piece right? I’m pretty sure of it.

Anyway, is there any way to replace that length of hollow threaded tubing without purchasing an entire new signal relocation kit? I’m not thrilled about spending $40 just for a two inch piece of threaded metal tube.

It’s on the right hand side that it broke…..that side never did apparently get tightened down enough with the inner nut and made the little flange that covers the old hole up rattle and drive me crazy……and at some point I think I just plain forgot that the inner nut was in there and kept trying to tighten the outer bolt to keep the turn signal in place…… then, when I did get it figured out again, the two nuts were frozen together and wouldn’t separate without using vice grips…..and I did finally have it all pretty tight it seemed, but I’m guessing that when I hit a massive pothole the other weekend it jolted it hard enough to snap it after it must have been weakened from all of the adjustments to it……

Go to the parts dept at your dealer. They will hive the exploded diagram of the kit on the computer so you can see if there is a part number. I've had some luck with it.

Are talking about the 'stalk'? Is it part number 68664-08A ?

If you go to Harley's officialist of official websites and look up the re-lo part number, it usually gives you a pdf for installation instructions that will give you a breakdown of the included parts.

I did it for you. Check to se if this is what you're needing --

Wow, I didn’t expect anyone to have a clue – I do believe it is referred to as the stalk…..where do you see a part number?

That blow up is misleading as to what the actual kit looks like. You don’t reuse that housing and the ‘stalk’ is an extended version of what is replaced.

I’ll certainly see if it is a replaceable part, but I highly doubt the factory is going to offer it piecemeal.

I just wonder if there is anything that would substitute for that part? It doesn’t seem to be particularly proprietary.

G: At the bottom of the pdf sheet. Look at the whole thing, dude.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

You are talking about the turn signal stalk. I did a kit breakdown on it for you on h-dnet and the part # is indeed 68664-06A. It'll run you $15.75.

Ok, thanks guys! I didn't look at the service parts tab.... Got it ordered! $15.75 is pretty steep, but better than $34.95....

It's all in the Instruction Sheet posted previously by Grendel4:

"INSTALLATION
Installing the Turn Signal Stalk and Rear Docking
Point
1. See Figure 3. Place the rear docking point (E) and recess
cover (D) over the long threaded end of the new turn signal
stalk (4) with the countersunk side of docking point facing
outward.
2. Insert the turn signal stalk (4) through the rear mounting
hole in the fender support and fender. Apply Loctite® 243
(blue) to the stalk and thread into fender mounting bracket.
3. Tighten the stalk to 12-18 ft-lb (16.3-24.4 Nm).
4. Loosely install a jam nut (3) and a lockwasher (2) onto the
short threaded end of the turn signal stalk (4).
5. Place the recess cover (1) into position over the recess
on the turn signal housing. Insert the wires from the socket
through the grommet into the turn signal housing, through
the threaded hole and the recess cover, and into the turn
signal stalk (4)
.
