I just got my V&H quiet baffles today and installed them in my Straightshots HS slip-ons. I could not get them in the muffler with the fiberglass wrap on them as they were too tight and the fiberglass kept bunching up. In the end I gave up on the fiberglass wrap and cut it off. The baffles are a little shorter than the standard baffles and are a different design. My dilemma is that I am not sure if it has made much difference in the sound. Has anyone else taken off the fiberglass wrap and still noticed a difference in sound. The bike sounds good and runs great, but if it is quieter it does not seem like it is much quieter.
Also, the fiberglass appeared to be taped on with what looked like clear scotch tape. It must be something that is heat resistant because I cannot imagine scotch tape holding up in the heat of the exhaust. Does anyone know if there is any special type of tape I need to use if I try to put the fiberglass wrap back on the baffle?
I have the quiet baffles in my bigshot staggereds with the glass on.Had the standard baffles in originally, then installed the quiets. Not much difference in loudness, just slighty deeper tone.Still a little louder than I wanted.Bike does have more bottom end with them though.
Not everyone likes loud. Actually, I do like moderately loud, but not obnoxious loud. Anyway, most people say that the quiet baffles are not really all that quiet, but just make a deeper tone (and help with decel popping due to more back pressure). Sounds like just what I want -- I'm getting them.
Thats sealed the deal for me too. Ordering them tonight. I love my bike, but a slightly deeper tone and a smoother decel sound is just what I'm looking for.
Will hopefully keep the neighbors from getting unruly if I want to warm up for a couple mins and ride it into work @ 6am.
IMO V&H can get a little too loud. I'm disappointed to hear that the quiet baffles don't really quiet them all that much. I want meaty and attention-getting sound, but not the obnoxious, make-everyone-hate-bikers sound.
