here's a link to a write up on a tool I made for cleaning spokes without hurting your fingers.

After you've cleaned the spokes you could apply WD40 for protection.

I have the same issue on my 09 Nightster, and I really love the idea of black powder coating my spokes. I just feel as though the powder coating might take something away from that old school charm. Any thoughts on that, folks? BTW, sweet scoot, Bro.

JRK5892: I gotta say bro, I'm not usually a fan of the apes, but your bike is flawlessly and tastefully done. The color scheme and the old school looks are simply killer. Old school is definitely the way I'm looking to go with the WG. Thanks for the offer to powder coat my rims too, but I could prob get it done cheaper here due to the money saved on shipping. Powder coat is definitely in in my future, now I just need to convince the fiance that it's in hers as well

convince her lol

You could just cover them. I live near the beach and have accepted that I will see rust soon.

Lil Squirt posted some shots of the bykas covers here.

I'm planning on replacing rims next year (or two), so I expect the covers to last me at least that long.

This stuff works brilliantly and is made for cleaning rusty spokes, brings them up like new

this wheel had rusty spokes, used this luster lace stuff and now looks almost new.

A quick 30 minute go using this stuff to see if it worked and seems it does so will finish the job when i can put more time into it

Are you dealing with chrome or polished stainless spokes?

Just curious, when the spokes on my old wheels started to rust, there was no stopping it... Part ofthe reason I went to billet chrome rims...

my wideglide lives outside too. give the spokes a coating of ACF 50, after cleaning. it will stop them rusting up.
