....Torx (pronounced "torks", rhyming with "forks"), developed[when?] by Camcar Textron,[1] is the trademark for a type of screw head characterized by a 6-point star-shaped pattern. People unfamiliar with the trademark generally use the term star, as in star screwdriver or star bits. The generic name is hexalobular internal driving feature and is standardised by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 10664.[2] Torx Plus is an improved profile.....

I looked at the ones I have where the packaging says "Star". They are numbered T25, T27 and so on and have 6 points, so they probably are Torx. Maybe the maker did not want to pay a royalty to use the Torx name. They look to be a cheap set, sold under the GreatNeck brand. Thanks for the tips. ToolTopia, $80 delivered. If it saves drilling out just one F'd up screw, it'll be worth it.

+1 WAY good advice. Virtually eliminates stripped screw-heads. I still have some crappy, unreliable 1/2"-drive Chinese impact drivers, but found a nearly new, cased, 3/8"-drive Snap-On impact driver set w/ bits cheap enough on eBay. It's worlds better.

Sears (Craftsman) are good, but there is a new Craftsman EVO (?) that is China-made that appears less worthy. I've never even heard of Kobalt-brand in my 66 years. Snap-On is worth getting if you can appreciate owning and using very fine quality tools; many of mine have been purchased used, in excellent to new condition, at a cost not much more than new Craftsman tools.

Want the best bits? check out Wiha online. They make industrial hand tools and torx bits from standard, titanium coated, diamond coated and carbide. All are forged, hardened, and annealed. Cost alot but don't break.

This last set of bits I bought at Oreillys Auto Supply, $35.00 and not worth a plug nickel, made sure it had a T27 and guess what.... the T27 didnt work, rolled over just like the rest. Was able to get the job done though... but it looks like I'm gonna have to save up for some quality bits. I know you get what you pay for but damn I dont have 100 bones to throw down on some bits.

You may be right. I was just assuming they were different since they say star. What's funny but I guess it makes perfect since is the torx male bit does not fit the female star socket. These say VE10 VE12 VE14. When I did my first brake work I looked at the bolt holding the caliper and at first glance thought they were for this but soon learned it was just a 12 point socket.

Craftsman EVO
True crap for those that don't want to pay for quality tools.

As far as Torxs Plus, that's pretty much BS. I never found a Torx Plus bolt on my 09 Ultra or any references in the shop manual.

Right you are; they're metric size 10!

+1....I personnally use Thorsen...Torx. i buy them individually...they sold them way back at Advance and they had a lifetime warranty..now they sell some crap..they still sell Thorsen at a local Hardware store and they are priced right...That cheap EVO **** at Searrs...what a joke. I might buy a pair of pliers or a file or a hammer but bits or wrenches or sockets...Naw...

the Japanese and German parts on a Harley Davidson are metric.

My question to you is regarding the availability of SAE tools in Europe; any difficulties there?
