Default Checking engine oil Level...

2000 TC-88 engine.

I've never been sure about this,,,,when checking the oil level, do I push the rubber cap all the way in and remove it and note the oil on the dip stick.

Or

Push the cap in to the first stop (about 1/2 way) and check it from there.

Right now when I put in 3 quarts and check it from pushing the cap all the way down it shows overfilled,,,,,half way in shows just right.

I guess I'am a bit slow,,it has taken me 10 years to decide to ask this question.......:shrugs:

Thanks....

The oil quantity during an oil change is 2 1/2 qts., so you overfilled it. Get yourself a food baster, clean one, and suck out a half qt. the oil is checked with the dipstick fully seated with the bike on the jiffy stand. When the engine is at operating temp the oil should be no higher than the full mark. Pre ride check just check to see if you have oil between add and full. I check mine after I get home, and before the next ride I look for oil under the bike. If it's not on the floor than it's still in the bike.
