Why do you think so many people use a fender bib when running with a solo seat?

Originally I went with the Rigid Rack and detachable seat combo, but my wife HATED it, so now it is just sitting on the shelf waiting for a new home.
Now I gotten the removable rear passenger seat and detachable sissy bar. Here I had another problem, when I had my sporty I had the low sissy bar (chrome only) and my wife loved it. However when I went to get the detachable side plates and new sissy bar I found out that the blates come in gloss black but the Low sissy bar is still only offered in chrome, the Mid-Low is to low for the wife and the high is way to high for my liking. So, I ended up buying some John Deere Black paint, scuffed up the chrome with some 300 grit wet sand paper, sprayed self ecthing primer, wet sanded again and sprayed the black with three coats. Turned out great. So know I have a seat the wife likes and its all black. Now I just have to figure out what to do about the pressure point that effect her legs when we ride long distance.
Oh, I almost forgot, we hit ran and dust on the ride and you know what that does, builds up where the seat (leather) meets the fender. So now I have some minor rub marks on the fender. I am sure that I can get it buffed out, but it is just going to happen again and again as we use the seat. Thinking a fender bib might help with this, but not sure how to avoide it other then by getting the wife on her own bike, one day maybe.

The Fender bib would not have protected where these scratches are. They are on the edges of the seat. I will take some pics to show everyone.

I'm going to get a solo seat at some point. What do folks do with the bumpers? I would imagine they would kind of spoil the look....
Leather fender bib. There are a couple sold by HD, Mustang, etc.

If you installed the parts then your fault. If dealer did the installation then they should repair it. Who did the install? Why did you not let the dealer do it? If you thought you could do it yourself and did not want to pay the tech you learned your lesson. Always read instructions. You would have realized the bumper kit is required. It states so on the HD site when you buy the seat.

With the denim paint say what you will, but it scratches extremely easy as it is not cleared....What might be a normal wear mark on other bikes will be 100 times worse with the denim paint....I would save for a new paint job that is not that Denim Crap....It does look great on the showroom floor but after a while......

Probably wouldn't have helped anyway. I got the same thing even with the rubber baby buggy bumpers on mine. Not quite through to the steel, but but a deep-a$$ gouge.
