I have been riding my 2010 dyna superglide for about a year now with stock mufflers-not to happy with the lack of sound and the constant lane changing and left turn assaults by the blue hairs.
So about three weeks ago my local indie hooked me up with a new set of cycle shack slip ons for a killer deal. After three weeks of in town and hiway riding, today i put my stock mufflers back on.I just got back from a forty mile test run.My ears didn't ring as bad as they had been. Biggest bonus is I can go back to riding more aggressively as i had in the past.Downside?-people in cars no longer avoid driving next to me and i was cut off and almost mashed more times today than i had in the last three weeks combined.
I work at night and have to drive to different jobs throughout the morning, and with the cycle shacks i had to creep around way too much.
For the record this is my eleventh harley in the last 25 or so years.I ran straight pipes on them all with the exception of a ultra glide.I am 47 now so possibly i have become too old and grumpy. Dunno- but that's my story - for what its worth.
FYI, you can get Big City Thunder baffles for your stock mufflers. Might be a good alternative. My SEII's are loud so I wear an earplug in my right ear.
I'm only 72 (for 3 more months anyway) and I have never liked OEM pipes. I've had Cycle Shacks and liked them. Currently have Bub 7 2 into 1 and like them too. Have had many others over the course of 50+ years. Gotta have a little sound to quiet the Singer sound. I've never found loud pipes to have anything to do with my safety. Keeping my eyes open, scanning ahead and behind me and anticipating my options in the event of dangerous situations seems to work the best for me. Definitely not putting down discretion, it's valuable in many of life's areas.

Do the new stock slip ons still have the thin plug half way up the muffler? In the past Ive used a uni bit ( shaped like a christmas tree) and drilled out some of the plug somewhere between 1/2" and 3/4" has a decent bark when you gas it but still fairly quiet idle and while cruising<sp? best part is at any time you can pull the mufflers slide in a couple fender washers & nut n bold and its stock again. I had SE11 but monday i put the BUB 7 two into one Kirk was/is closing them out for $192

I have Rush slip ons and wouldnt dream of riding without earplugs. ever. To be honest once over about 50 mph I cant hear the exhaust because of the wind unless pinning the throttle.
Whenever I do ride without earplugs (and thats by accident) I have to say at low speed I really like the sounds the bike makes.
When I first bought my bike I wanted loud exhaust like my riding buddy has had but aftering having to listen to his bike for weeks on rides I just bought the screaming eagle exhaust alittle louder but much better/deeper tone compared to my factory stock exhaust. I am very much happy with my choice others may want louder depending on their taste.
Ok.........I have a 2010 FXDC......after the 1K break-in I had the dealer
instal a stag 1 kit and download (no need to comment on the download ). I installed Khrome Werks 3" tappered slip-ons (I wanted to preserve the stock look). They are a little quite at idle but open up nicely when ya get on it and are tollerable at speed. The quality is fair and the baffel design is interesting. Over the years I've used both SE & Cycle Shack and V&H and like them all. Just wanted to try something different. My concern is the that the Khrome Werks may be a little too free flowing for a stock motor. I'm thinking about changing them out for SE's. Now there's a 50 state version which has the cat built in and a 49 state version w/o the cat. I'm thinking about the 49 state version. The reason for all of this is because right now it pop's a lot on the decel and gearing down and the KW's may be contributing to running too lean but I'm not totally sure about that. I dont want to get into the tuner thing unless I dont have a choice. No one here, so far, has had any imput on the KW's and I've been told by the locals to takeum off and buy something good. OUCH! Whatch y'all think?

I think Cagers will give you lots of room if you wear a Clown Suit while riding. Thing is, not many are inclined to wear one because it is just not very cool. I do not remember reading about any clowns being hit while riding their motorcycles for several years now.

Jason, with your luck, if you lived in Las Vegas you'd be a multi-millionaire!

Reason: wrong icon
I went back to the cycle shack slip-ons today.
loud pipes are like crack. hard to kick the addiction.
i only lasted 6 days.
one quick note- spraying wd-40 around the clamps made the stockers come off way easy!gonna pack ear plugs with me for when it starts to bother me.F#ck it.
