I've thought about trying the 255s, but I enjoy how the 203s make my bike run. They do not increase the exhaust note like the 204s did. The engine runs smoother and stronger than stock and seemed to come on earlier than the 204s. If you're on a budget I think the 203s are worth it. If you're not on a budget, then go for something aftermarket.

Please tell me you did some tuning when you tried the 204's for that short period.

204's have lots of timing advance built into them and they require some special attention from the guy who tunes the bike.

If you didn't make any timing changes when you tested the 204's, you didn't get an accurate test.

I got the 203s off ebay new for 120.00,
There is a reason that they were abailable so cheap.

Hey thanks J.B. Did you change out the sticks yourself or did you get a mechanic to do it? I'm toying with trying the install myself and still have to decide if I tackle it from the top or spend money on EZ-Install pushrods.

I did it myself. Changing out the cams was very straight forward. I went through the top. If I had to do it over I would have gone with the adjustables. I ended up changing them out three times. Stock to 203s to 204s back to 203s. I could have saved myself alot of hassle.
If you do decide to do them you can PM me with any questions. Make sure you have a service manual and there are a couple of "how to" threads here that will help alot.

If you are going to pay someone to do it, you may want to go with a different set of cams. The 203s were worth it to me because total cost for me was about $180.00 (not including the 204s, but I sold them and made most of my money back). I spent $120.00 for cams and about $60.00 for misc. Having an indy or dealer put in 203s will probably not be worth it. Doing it yourself will be IMHO.

Thanks for the tips. I'd never get a dealer to touch my bike and there is an indy here in this small town who works for $50 per. I'll message you if I have a question or two when the time comes, (if I choose to do it myself).

Basically if ya like to run the r's out, the 255's aren't for u! IMO, they're a great bagger set of cams for alot of 2-up riding! Some will say they're great on their dynas...on few occasions for the right person, maybe so...but prolly cause they haven't tried a good matched cam for their riding style! With a little research, there are much better sets that will get a good hit from the start & not fall flat on their a**!

That pretty much sums up why the 255's can be found on the used market so often.

I am running the 255 with a 103 kit on my Bob and like them, I agree they do drop and lack on top end power, but for me and my ridding style they work well, I like the very hard out of the hole response that they give you and the fact I can run hard in the mountains in 4th gear still have top end and still pull hard out of the turns, I know there is better cams but these cams do there job quite well for my ridding style. When I do my heads next year I will look at other options but for now, I am very happy with them.

The 32/66 pulley's suck for bottom end power and have more gear than you need on top, These bikes need the 30T no matter what cams you run.
