Thanks guys. Honestly I have no idea what my rear tire looks like. Probably bad preventative maintenance on my part
I don't recall looking at my tire although I did do check air pressure. My brother borrowed the bike to go on a trip and he sent me a text that my back tire was pretty bad. I was wondering if he was on glue or if the tire would wear that quick. Reading the replies...and knowing that most that mileage had a lot of weight on the bike it sounds plausible.
Guess I am looking for a new tire in the spring (he did say the front still looked like new)
I'll go searching the threads on tire recommendations...on my previous Metrics I've been extremely happy with Avon and Metzler...so will see if they make a good Harley tire too!
I think the biggest factor in how long your tire last is how soft or hard your tires compound it. Softer tires get better grip but they also don't last long. A harder tire will last you longer but it wont grab the ground as good. If most of your riding is highway and staight the harder tire is what would last you longer. If you like cornering like I do then softer tire are what you want. Softer tires will also cost you more both when replacing and how often you replace it.
I'm getting ready to replace my Fatbob rear tire, I'm at 15,000. My front is also cupping, but with plenty of tread. Should I go ahead and replace it also?
Just replaced the rear tire on my 08 FXDC with 8000 miles on it. Had a little bit of tread left on it (maybe 500-1000 miles) but I went ahead and replaced the tire with new wheels being installed.
