been lurking for awhile now and recently picked up an 03 super glide for my first bike. however i have 2 questions
1. i wanna get a new exhaust system and am really diggin the blacked out look of the Vance and hines but they dont offer anything for 03 only 06 and up. will the newer model exhust fit on an older one?
2. i noticed this morning when riding back home my speedo wasnt going over twenty but i know i was, any ideas what going on?
1. You need to get an exhaust designed for your engine. The 06 won't work. (Try ebay)
2. Check the speed sensor in your transmission. Remove, inspect, clean,re-install. Then it could be a lot of other issues if the sensor is not it. I am assuming your bike is carbureted.
Vance and Hines makes pipes to fit your bike. I just bought a set a week ago for my '05
Best move you could make with your bike is a gear driven cam conversion. The factory cam chain tensioners are crap and when they give out, the engine goes BOOM!
I'll be selling my S&S mufflers shortly, if intersted PM me.
well my biggest thing is i dont want my bike to get messed up. its my main mode of transportation, so is it ok to drive or should i wait till i can drive it straight to the shop?
change fluids, check and lube cables, check belt tension, check tightness on bolts.
do yourself a big favor and pick up a manual.
yeah, the service manual is the best investment I ever made in my bike. With it, it is almost impossible to **** something up. they even have pictures.

Can't really say whether a bike is safe or not without actually looking it over.
The speedo is electric, and is probably suffering from a bad connection.
If your fluid levels are ok, belt is tight, and the tires have air, you should be fine to ride.

And a good torque wrench? Seems like that is a given.
