09 FXDC air filter
There are also conflicting arguments about the oil in K&N and other aftermarket filters in the stock air cleaner. The MoCo believes there's enough oil being vented into the air filter/cleaner from the crankcase and introducing more isn't necessarily a good idea.
I don't know what to make of that argument. I do know that on Harley's Stage I filter, they use a washable dry filter and not an oiled one.
If you plan on someday upgrading to a Stage I filter of some sort, I don't know if I'd spend the money on a K&N and then have to shelve it when the time comes to do the upgrade. It's not a lot of money, but it's still money.
If you're planning on going to a higher volume, Stage I air cleaner and filter, then you might be jumping the gun a bit. You might be getting the cart before the horse, so to speak.
And -- What makes you think you need an air filter? Just miles? Is it really dirty? Has it been ridden in the rain and/or dust quite a bit? How does it look?
Okay, once you're convinced you need an air filter, what do you think a K&N is gonna do for you? I would say somewhere around -- Nothing. Yeah, K&N will claim that their filter will make you taller, richer and better looking while making your bike run down the quarter mile in 5 seconds with your nostril hairs on fire.
I got two words for that and one is 'Bull'.
I'm not knocking K&N at all. I use their products quite a bit, air and oil filters. I just don't see a lot of (if any) benefit to using one on a bone-stock motor with a bone stock air cleaner.
Harleys are expensive. Babies are even more expensive. Spend your money wisely.
Just my opinion. And (again) you know what they say about those.

Good luck and congrats on the new addition to the family.
Bad to say. But I work for an hvac supplier and when I ride to work, all the customers turn into experts. That is where I got the K&N idea from. What these guys don't understand is I more than happy riding my Dyna stock until I have the money to do the correct upgrades. They can do what ever they want to that Honda Harley look alike. I will from now on refer to you guys.
Tscreener, I will send you my address thanks!
