Default New Clutch Cable Snapped!!!

This past Sunday, I decided to replace my clutch cable with the new +2 Clutch cable (38852-09) Since I put new throttle cables on my 09 FXD as well, I wanted them to match. Well, I pulled everything off with no problems, then started to install the new cable into the side cover. Half way into the cover, the damn threading snaps off inside it. I had no idea these damn cables were so fragile. Now I have to buy another clutch cable and a new Side cover for the transmission. So a 99.00 dollar job is slowly turning into a 300.00+ job and, to top it off, everything is backordered so I can forget about going to Bikefest in South Padre Island this weekend. I know this is a long rant, but the purpose is to find out if anyone else has had this problem and is there an easy way to make sure that when threading the side cover with the cable that it doesn't break again? Any tips would be much appreciated.

you tightened it too much, you do not have to buy a new side cover, just pull it cut the ball off the cable and an easy out will easily remove the left over part of the cable, it was just tightened too much, just needs to be snug, the o ring keeps it from leaking

Did the same thing first time I replaced my clutch cable. The second one I bought had a big bright warning tag taped to that end that said, "Caution! Do NOT overtighten, snug tighten only!".

Haha! A bit too late, but a lesson well learned. I managed to get the little threaded piece out using some needle nosed pliers, it shouldn't be in there tight, just a little hard to get a grip on it.

Couldn't get the piece out of the cover, it also seems that I threaded it at an odd angle so the threads are chewed up as well. I wouldn't want to try and put on a new cable after that, hence the new cover as well. I am thinking that when they come in I will have the service guys thread it for me.
