Along with last winter's mods, I replaced clutch cable, brake and throttle cables with new ones from Magnum. They seemed good.
Tonight, I was removing the trans cover to send out for powdercoat. Loosened clutch slack, removed cover, removed ramps, then placed wrench on notches on cable, and began rotating the cover about the threads to remove the clutch cable from the cover. The threads were sheared off. Can still see the threads in the cover, and the sheared metal on the clutch cable fitting.
Anyone ever have this happen? I sent Magnum a message about it. Will probably call tomorrow. I have done a number of clutch cable replacements and am familiar with the parts. Not sure how this happened! Any ideas, besides you must have pulled too hard??
This happened to my softail once but the cause was clear.. It was my exhaust, it is a very close tolerance and it whacked the cable and busted the threads..
This may not be your case but it's certainly worth looking into, it doesn't take much to break the threads off of a cutch cable...
whacked the cable when installing or removing them? It is possible, but not likely. The V&H big radius I was removing curve up out of the way of the cable a good bit.
Not a big issue I guess. I will see what Magnum has to say about replacing this one. If not, order a new one.
