I got the bars installed, now the throttle does not like to go back to the normal position and when giving gas it acts like it is going to die. Any ideas of why? I can also smell more gas than I normally do.

I'd advise to hang a plastic bucket on the right hand side of the handlebar to catch the brass ferrule in case it falls down.

Pay special attention to the throttle set screw (click link to see poor man's cruise control, item 72 + 66 in image). The black half moon piece (item 66) goes between your throttle sleeve and the thumb screw.
