If you don't need to sell it you really should keep it. They stand out from the crowd rather than fit in. The FXDX is an excellent hill carver but could also be set up to go the distance in minutes with the right equipment.
I traded an 01 Superglide in on an 07 Night Train on an impulse. I really wanted to see and feel what the Softy's were like. Well, recently I traded the NT in on an 09 Vic and I'm happy with the Vic but truthfully, I would have been just as happy with the Superglide if I had changed a few things and bumped up the motor to a 95" or 98".
When I was shopping for a cruiser I almost bought a Victory Hammer. Instead I chose my Street Bob due to the Victory aftermarket isnt as developed and their arent nearly the used parts floating around compared to HD. Nice bikes, but not really for a budget minded custom. Great bikes if you arent gonna change them from showroom setups much.
not to sound like a *** whipe but being yellow won`t help you i actually belive the dealer gave you a realistic trade he will get 6599 because he has poeple who he can finace and you cannot
There is probably a pretty big gap between what you would feel is a "fair" price and today's prevailing market price. I would guess that an '01 would probably go for around $7,000, give or take $500. There are a lot of later model bikes on the market. Good luck.

Bike has 15K on it and just had oil change. If i trade it in I will only get about $5000.
Only add ons are Stage 1, forward controls and removable back rest.
Thanks

Thats what I would wanna pay now ,given the whacked out economy. I passed up a 2006 Softail Standard for 8k with 10k miles recently cuz it was dirty and not maintained well.
I picked my 08 superglide up for $8500 w/ 4k miles & completely stock except for bard, grips, a/c, & taillight. couple of problems that needed to be fixed. local dealer had a 98 fxd with lot of miles for $400 more than mine the same day.
i'd say $7.5k is more than fair.
EVO & shovel superglides still go for over $6k around here. So $1,000 more for around 10 years newer seems good to me...
